Treadmill is a piece of exercise equipment that simulate running and walking large distances without having to leave your home. They have a moving base that the user runs on which can be speed up or slowed down to suit the runners fitness and they are also very easy to use and get used to as the running is very familiar to everyone. Treadmills are also great as you can run without having to face the great British weather so come rain or snow you can do your usual running exercise, you can also watch television or listen to music so the running can be quite pleasurable.

Treadmills have several features that make the running harder or movie varied, as well as increasing the resistance many treadmill will run through several different resistances in order and continually cycle through the program. This works the body harder as it has to keep adjusting to the new resistance and it also allows the body to have periods of heavy running and periods of light running for rest, there are also treadmills on which you can alter the incline, that is the gradient of the running surface so you can make it so that you have to run slightly uphill. This makes it much harder to run so is a great fitter and need more of a challenge, the harder it is for you to run the more calories you will burn and the fitter you will become so the greater impact it will have on our life.
Lot of Treadmills are motorised which means that they are powered and move at A constant speed, there are some treadmills that are not motorised though and these should be avoided. They are cheap so can be appealing but they offer none of the features that a motorised treadmill has and they are well worth the money.Treadmills have a console with an LCD screen that records lots of information about your running, this includes how long have been using the treadmill, the speed that you are running, the distance that you have covered and the calories that you have burnt, this is very useful information as you can set yourself targets, you should always do the same amount of time with each work-out so that you can try and improve the distance that you have covered. You can then gradually increase the amount of time that you do per work-out but only do this when you can easily complete the amount of time you had set for your treadmill work-outs, you should do a minimum of 30 minutes per work-out around 5 times per week.
Lot of Treadmills also have a heart rate monitor which is great as it allows you to see how effective the running you are doing is, you have an ideal heart beat range that you can find from the treadmill's instructions and staying in this heart beat rate range will ensure that you are getting the most from the exercise , if you are below this heart beat range then you are not working hard enough and if you are above it then you are working too hard so you can see why having a heart rate monitor is so important.
